RESCUED!
Popped a string in a Sat. ALTA playoff match & needed it restrung for Sunday's semis. Guts & Glory Tennis came through for me. Not only timely, but the best stringing job I've ever had. They've earned my future business.

Funny Tennis Stories

US Open Fashions - The untold story.

September 1, 2005The young Russian tennis star, Maria Sharapova, might be well advised to be more cautious in her use of American slang. In communicating with older non-American designers she had no idea of the potential ramifications of language and generational barriers. The proof is in the teen sensation's current US Open attire.

Reportedly, Ms. Sharapova, while speaking with Nike's team of fashion designers, indicated she wanted to unveil something special for the 2005 US Open. "I want to capture the imagination of my peeps and at the same time reflect the whimsy that is me."

Nike's crack design team of Vera Wangli and Christine Diork took the teen sensation's words to heart. Only trouble is they had no idea what the youngster was talking about. "After speaking with Ms. Sharapova we Googled 'Peeps' and our concept immediately crystallized. Our color scheme became obvious and basically the deisgn flowed from there. In less than 15 minutes all that was left was to add the Nike Swoosh. By far our fastest design effort to date. We know Maria will be pleased."

The result is a confection inspired design that may actually spawn more sales for marshmallow peeps than Nike.

Ms. Sharapova was initially luke warm to the color pallet, but eventually warmed up to it. "I have no idea how they came up with the idea of using baby blue and yellow, but I guess it's okay. If nothing else, it is unique. I mean, I don't think the Williams sisters will be using these colors in their designs anytime soon."

In the event that the #1 seed makes it to the finals she may be debuting a new outfit for the national television audience. She spoke with the designers again after her first round victory. "I told them I wanted to make a statement. I want something that will cause my peeps to say, 'dang, that's off the chain!'"

The designers are currently working on her request.

John "15+ MPH on Every Serve" Youngblood is a part-time writer and humorist who can often be seen munching on Peeps during changeovers. He claims the yellow ones are best for extra energy while the blue ones are only used in the postseason due to the special powers they produce.
