Is it possible for a string to be too good? If so, the Black5Edge may be the string to earn that label. The Australian distributor for WeissCANNON calls it "Too good to be legal!" In fact, they may not be too far off with that statement.

Construction: Constructed of the HIGHEST grade premium co-polymer materials reinforced with fluorcarbon trace elements and powerful chemical additives. The chemical predecessor to this string is the hugely successful Silverstring. The Black5Edge features the same basic core construction with the bonus of advanced chemical elements and variations in concentration along with a Pentagonal profile to propel it into an entirely new classification of poly-based string. We call it "poly-plush."

Advantage: The pentagonal profile is the angular extrusion type that produces the maximum amount of spin and slice. The edges of the string combined with a finishing process that promote a snapping action in the stringbed create massive spin on demand resulting in a lethal combination of spin, power and control. Like the Silverstring, the Black5Edge is extremely arm friendly and offers that special "smooth" feeling from all areas of the court.

Comments: No string has earned the same level of rave reviews from our local playtest team. Three out of Four playtesters descibed it as "The Best String they have ever hit with." In a nutshell it takes all of the goodness of Silverstring and makes it GOODER! (Yes, we know "gooder" is not grammatically correct, but this string doesn't follow convention so why should we in our description?)

TENSION/PROPERTY MAINTENANCE: Using an ERT 700 we have taken the following stringbed stiffness measurements of the Black5Edge in a Kneissl Black Star racquet. This data reflects measurements using a racquet that also has experienced several hours of court time throughout the measurement period.

Have been waiting and waiting for a profiled string from WeissCANNON. Read the early review and found it too good to be realistic. After playtesting for 2 weeks, I find the review may have understated just how well this string performs. It exceeded my high expectations. It is my new string of choice. The String plays as good as the early reviews. It has good control, very close to WC Scorpion. The spin is better than Turbo Twist. The string is better than Signum Pro Tornado 123 for control and comfort and power. -- George Rodgers

My new favorite strings

I have been experimenting with poly and hybrid strings for over 2 years now. My last experiment was with these B5E strings at 52 lbs. They played awesome, with very crisp volleys, good spin and great control. Given that they will hold tension well and last a while, they are my new strings of choice. -- RaleighMB

Favorite Poly

B5E has good comfort, great control and is a superb all around string. The power is low so string at lower tension and blast away. Best WC string I've tried so far. -- bad_call

I have strung my racket with this string 4 times. I re-string around every 3 weeks. It's not a good as the MSV. String has issues with off center shots, pings a lot. Does have good power with center shots. Wanted to like it, but I am back to MSV.

Favorite string of all time

On the recommendation of bad_call who posted a review here, I tried this string out in the mains with a soft multifilament cross. My forehand turns into a lethal monster with this string. It does everything you want it to do, you have control against big hitters and power/spin versus the pushers. One of my opponents commented that my shots were extremely heavy with it. I've tested a lot of strings out but my playtest days are done until the next Weiss Cannon string comes out. -- mikeler

B5E a Special String!!

WOW!! What an unbelievable string. I have had some recent elbow (GE) issues and have been using all kinds of different multis, until Mikeler recommended this baby out. I have it in the mains crossed with a super soft multi at 48/52 and it is just plain awesome!! The string bed is extremely soft and the amount of bite/spin combined with pop is sick! My kick/slice serve and 1hb slice is deadly with this setup. But not only is it a good spin string, I find touch and volley great as well. AWESOME!! -- Kcraig
